Visual Basic (Classic)

Visual Basic (Classic)

Visual Basic (Classic) is like the 90s favorite tool for building Windows apps - fast, simple, and with a charming drag-and-drop IDE that made programming accessible to many.

About Visual Basic (Classic)

Visual Basic (Classic), often called VB6, was Microsoft’s flagship tool for creating Windows applications in the 1990s. With its iconic drag-and-drop IDE and an easy-to-understand language, it quickly became popular with both hobbyists and professionals. It was like building with LEGO - you could rapidly assemble UIs and logic without drowning in complex code.

Although Microsoft ended official support for VB6 in 2008, the language continues to live on in many legacy systems still in use today. A loyal group of developers keeps VB6 alive, and projects occasionally surface that attempt to recreate the classic IDE with modern tooling. So while VB6 may not be the first choice for new projects, it holds a place in programming history as a tool that made development accessible and fun for a generation.
